George ends the Monaco Grand Prix in P14 as Williams celebrate their 750th Formula One race.

Drama on the sighting lap for Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc promoted George into P14 as the Monegasque driver was forced to retire his car.

Once the race got underway, George was quickly passed by the Alpine of Fernando Alonso and dropped back into his qualifying position of P15.

It was then a steady race for the British driver as he held onto the position for 33 laps of the 78-lap race before he pitted to swap his Medium compound Pirelli tyres for a set of Hard compound tyres, re-emerging in P16.

George was able to take advantage of his early pit stop, gaining two positions into P14 as his teammate Nicholas Latifi and the Alpha Tauri of Yuki Tsunoda opted for a later stop.

As the final laps ticked down, George attempted to hunt down Alonso but the gap between the pair proved too great and the Williams driver had to settle for P14.

George Russell – Williams Racing Driver

“It was a pretty straightforward race and we finished where we deserved to be with the pace of the car. The race was uneventful, with nothing too exciting going on, but that’s just Monaco sometimes. The performance wasn’t as good as we had hoped but that wouldn’t have changed the result. Nevertheless, putting this car flat out around the streets of Monaco, lap after lap was really fun. Next up is Baku and we will keep on pushing.”

FP1 for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix will take place on Friday June 4 from 9:30 AM BST.
