George ended a rain-soaked qualifying in P8 ahead of his home race at Silverstone.

Taking to the track for the weekend's final practice session, George donned the Soft Pirelli tyres to place himself into P3 with a 1.29.757.

As the session tick away, George continued to improve, delivering his best lap time of 1.28.426 to end the session in P4.

With the rain falling across the circuit, George took to the track on a set of Intermediate tyres, setting a 1.44.976 lap time to place into P3.

As the rain eased, George quickly improved to boost himself into P1 but it was short-lived before he was knocked down into P3 where he ended the Q1.

In Q2, George slotted into P5 on his first run before improving into P4 with a 1.41.725.

The rain made an unwelcome reappearance at the end of the session, preventing any further improvements and George ended Q2 in P5 to advance into the pole position shootout.

For the final qualifying session, George placed into P8 in the early stages of the session before improving into P3.

Unfortunately, the wet conditions hampered progress and George ended the day in P8 where he will line up for the British Grand Prix.

George Russell – Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One™ Team Driver

In Q1 I was feeling really well in the car, very confident but in Q2, it felt slightly worse and then in Q3, I struggled for confidence in the car, made a mistake and it was tough to recover from there. It was tricky for everyone out there but I'm slightly disappointed we didn't have a better qualifying session, we didn't expect to fight for pole but more was possible. In FP3 we looked very strong with good pace in the dry and we felt like we made good progress.
We know that we have a much faster race car than qualifying so let's see what we can do tomorrow, starting P8 puts us on the back foot so we need to get through those midfield cars as quickly as possible.
In the dry and in race pace, we feel we have a car that can fight Red Bull and Ferrari, so we'll be giving it everything tomorrow.
