Mixed feelings for George ahead of SpanishGP
George expecting ‘interesting’ weekend for Williams at Formula One’s Spanish Grand Prix.
The British driver sat out of FP1 in Barcelona as development driver Roy Nissany got behind the wheel of his FW43-B for the morning session.
It was business as usual for the afternoon FP2 session and George wasted little time getting back on track to put in some laps of the Spanish circuit, amassing 29 laps of the 4.6km Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
The warm and windy track conditions weren’t ideal for the car and both George and teammate Nicholas Latifi struggled during the session, but George was able to deliver a 1.19.957 lap time to finish the day in P17.
George Russell – Williams Racing Driver
“It’s always tricky missing FP1 and having half the running, but it was great to get back out in the car after a difficult weekend in Portugal. In terms of the circuit, the new corner at Turn 10 is a nicer corner than the previous one and is fun to drive. We look a little further away on the low fuel pace compared to where we usually are, but our high fuel pace seems relatively decent. Barcelona can be difficult with high tyre degradation and history has shown that we tend to struggle here, so Sunday will be interesting.”
George will be on track from 11AM BST for FP3 on Saturday May 8.
