A bittersweet day for George as he crashed and potentially lost out on his first points in his Formula 1 career at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola.

The Brit had been battling hard throughout the race to move his way up the grid from P13 on new Medium tyres, pitting on lap 11 of 63 for a new set of Hard compound Pirelli tyres in order to attack the cars ahead.

George capitalised on the retirements of Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon and Kevin Magnussen, as well as an issue for Max Verstappen, which brought out a Safety Car, to move himself into 10th and within touching distance of his first points.

An error trying to maintain heat in his tyres while behind the safety car caused George to lose control of the car, ending his race on lap 54.

George Russell – Williams Racing Driver

“I was pushing as hard as I could from lap one, the most aggressive I have ever been. I knew that with the guys behind me on the new tyres and myself on the old tyres, I had to be super aggressive to be in with the chance of getting a point. I came out of the corner and the tyres were too cold and I just lost the car, and I was already in the wall. It is absolutely gutting, and I am really sorry to the team. We were having an amazing race up until then, we were pushing really hard every lap and the pace was good. There are no excuses, I have to go away and learn from this and come back stronger next time.”

George will return to the track on Friday November 12 for the Turkish Grand Prix.
