George ended the final qualifying of the 2020 Formula 1 season in P16 after a challenging outing ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The Williams driver began the day with 16 laps in FP3 and an incredible lap with 12 minutes remaining moved him into P7 before he ended the session in P15.

Despite promising work in FP3, George’s FW43 struggled with tyre temperatures in Q1 – as did his team-mate Nicholas Latifi.

George would set a best time of 1.38.045 to take P18, which became P16 after penalties were applied to the field.

George Russell – Williams Racing Driver

“It was tricky out there. We really struggled with the tyres, Nicholas was also struggling, which was a bit strange as in FP3 the car was good. It’s the last race of the year tomorrow, though, and that is where it counts. The aim is to try and overtake, and move forward where we can. We usually have strong Saturdays and struggle on Sundays so hopefully a poor Saturday means a good Sunday!”

George will take to the track for the final Grand Prix of 2020 at 1:30 PM GMT on Sunday December 13.
