George put in a fantastic performance in front of a sellout crowd at Silverstone to seal his highest Formula One finishing position to date in P14.

Racing at his home Grand Prix for the first time, George lined up P19 on the grid following Saturday’s Qualifying, which saw him extract the maximum from the FW42 package once again to outqualify ROKiT Williams Racing teammate Robert Kubica by 0.5s.

The Briton started on Medium compound tyres and made an excellent start to move up into P17, overtaking the Haas cars of Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean to gain ground early on.

In the opening stint, he was able to stay in touch with the pack in front as he pushed to the maximum – roared on by the home faithful packed into the grandstands.

The Safety Car was deployed on Lap 19 when Antonio Giovinazzi left the track at Vale, elevating George to P16.

The team took advantage of the Safety Car period to pit George on Lap 20 – switching him to the Hard compound, which he would run to the end of the race on a one-stop strategy.

George managed to move up another position at the restart as the Racing Point of Sergio Perez went off at Brooklands, moving the Briton up to P15 position in the running.

Throughout the second stint of the race, George managed to reel off Qualifying-style laps to maximise his performance on track – even managing to take advantage of drama for Sebastian Vettel and finishing ahead of the Ferrari to clinch the best result of his fledgling Formula One career so far.

George Russell - ROKiT Williams Racing Driver:

“I felt that we got the most out of the car. It was great fun out there, driving flat out every single lap around a circuit as cool as this was a special feeling. Even before the race, seeing all the fans supporting us Brits was amazing.
We are still pushing, and hopefully at the next race we will be a bit quicker”.

The next round of the Formula One World Championship will take place at the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim on the 26-28 July.
