George makes his second Q3 appearance of 2021 to claim an incredible P8 ahead of Formula One’s first Sprint race at the British Grand Prix.

George’s weekend didn’t get off the best as the Brit struggled with the car in FP1, ending the session down in P20

In Q1, George was able to comfortably stay within the top 15 positions for the entire session, ending it in P14 to secure himself a place in the Q2.

In Q2, George was quick to take to the track to put in his first flying lap which took him into P9 but he was unable to hold onto the position as the rest of the grid put in their laps, pushing him down into P12 and the elimination zone.

With only one minute remaining, George returned to the track to deliver his final flying lap. The British driver put in a blistering 1:27.080 lap time to take him into P7 and his second Q3 appearance of the season.

In Q3, George joined the track with only five minutes remaining and very little traffic on track. With a free track, the Brit was to make great use of the track to deliver an incredible 1:26.971 lap time and put himself into P7.

A final flying lap from the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc knocked George down into P8 where he will start tomorrow’s first Sprint race.

George Russell – Williams Racing Driver

“It was our best qualifying session, and to do it in front of a home crowd was such an amazing feeling. This morning in FP1 I had no confidence with the car, and here we are in P8! Following practice, we had a decision to make to try and improve the car or stick to our guns and hope the track came towards us, which it did. Everything got in a much nicer window, and I felt confident and comfortable out there which allowed me to get that extra tenth or two. Ultimately, we did a fantastic job to get there, and it is about tomorrow now. It is not going to be easy, but we need to be aggressive and get on the front foot.”

George will be back on track for FP2 on Saturday July 17 from 12pm BST.
