George ends Friday in P17 as Formula One rounds out the first triple header of 2021 with the Austrian Grand Prix.

George did not take part in the first session of the weekend as Williams Racing development driver Roy Nissany took to the track for FP1.

For FP2, George was back behind the wheel and ready to put in some laps of the short Red Bull Ring circuit.

Despite unsettled conditions and rain during the final 10 minutes of running, George was able to complete 36 laps of the 4.3km circuit, putting in a 1:05.819 lap time to end the day in P17.

George Russell – Williams Racing Driver

“It can sometimes be tough missing a practice session, but there are only seven real corners here and we did plenty of running last week, so if you’re going to miss FP1 then this is the track to do it at. Our main focus from today was getting some mileage on the new tyres that are coming in Silverstone and, even with a bit of rain, I think we’re all feeling like we got a good read on those. In terms of qualifying and race preparations, the pace looked ok, but things often change slightly come Saturday afternoon. As always, the goal tomorrow is to qualify as high as possible. Q2 is the minimum we’re hoping for, but we’ll wait and see what the day brings.”

George will be back on track for FP3 of the Austrian Grand Prix from 11am BST on Saturday July 3.
