George will start Formula 1’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola from 13th.

The compact race weekend provided little time for the Brit to get to grips with the circuit and in the one and only free practice session, he placed 18th and learned valuable information about the track, car and Pirelli tyres.

However, George didn’t let the minimal practice around the historic Imola track affect his usual Saturday performance, producing some strong laps to move him comfortably through into Q2, his eighth time this season.

George then qualified in 14th. but, due to exceeding track limits, Vettel had his lap time removed, promoting George into 13th ahead of Sunday’s race.

George Russell – Williams Racing Driver

“I am really pleased with that qualifying session. It was a proper thrill out there today, we need to come to more tracks like this because it is exhilarating for the driver, pushing the car right to the limit. After practice we weren’t sure what others had done with their fuel loads, but we didn’t look so promising and we didn’t expect Q2, so to be in the position that we are in and to qualify P13 is great. Tomorrow we want to fight, go forwards and, although it will be difficult, I will be getting my elbows out and doing my best.”

George will be back on track at 12:30 GMT on Sunday November 1.
